I almost always use a soprano solo for verse 1, and I take it with colle voce the whole way through the solo. The accompaniment there is very very thin, so following is easy. I let the soloist interpret her solo as she wishes, otherwise, the solo can come out as very ironed and stayed. I've been at the console for a performance of this work with a small chamber ensemble under a conductor who insisted on strict rigidity for the solo (he could simply not contuct the strings in a way that followed the soloist, alas). The line was straight-jacketed and boring. Let the soprano fly on her own wings here, and the listeners will be enraptured and want to hear more.Jason Penningtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14531010709396601925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7002745.post-1143125692665695052006-03-23T09:54:00.000-05:002006-03-23T09:54:00.000-05:00Hmmm...you've piqued my interest. At least it was when I was a soprano. :-) My range has dropped somwhat after birthing 6 kiddos, so the alto division excites me.Valeriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05834241781924394474noreply@blogger.com
