Ah yes, the compulsory Happy Spy Wednesday post, following suit with similar previous posts of 2006 and 2007.
Here we remember that Jesus DID have a spy working against him. One of his own disciples - Judas Iscariot.
In the Extraordinary Form of Mass, the Passion according to Luke is read today.
In the Ordinary Form, we read the clip from the early part of the Passion according to Matthew where Judas receives the thirty pieces of silver from the chief priests to look for that "opportune moment" to hand Jesus over.
Make your friends scratch their heads. Wish them a Happy Spy Wednesday, too.
Peace,
BMP

MOTU PROPRIO ANTICIPATION...
...is making 1962 Missal sales skyrocket!
From Catholic World News: In expectation of the motu proprio, Catholic bookstores in Rome have begun selling copies of the 1962 Missal. Expecting brisk sales, publishing houses in Italy are reprinting the old Missal.
Eat your heart out, Ebay! :-)>
Hat tip to NLM correspondant Shawn Tribe.
On a lighter note, following the cue from Domini Sumus -
HAPPY SPY WEDNESDAY!!!

HAPPY SPY WEDNESDAY
Now THERE'S a greeting that may have some people scratch their heads and go "huh?" Some who remember, or still attend Mass according to, the 1962 Roman Missal (Tridentine Mass) might remember the name Spy Wednesday. I had never heard of it until seeing a Tridentine calendar in the sacristy at Holy Name a few years back.
It doesn't take much to realize the course of events within Holy Week to guess why the Wednesday in Holy Week was named Spy Wednesday. Consider this - the Last Supper (Holy Thursday) obviously took place before the Lord's Passion and Death (Good Friday). It is just before the Last Supper when, according to Gospel accounts of the Passion, hit man Judas was hired by the mafia of chief priests and elders, for thirty silver pieces, to hand Jesus over. It was on that day, Spy Wednesday, when the "deal was made".
Tomorrow we recall at Supper: one of you is about to betray me.
Peace,
BMP
