I notice a Marian hymn for Communion. I thought that Marian hymns should NOT be sung for communion. Or is that just the opinion of some, and has no basis in GIRM? Just asking.

Hi Puff.

Last I remember there was no such thought in the GIRM that a hymn to Mary could not be used during Communion. In fact, on some days (e.g., Marian feasts) there are Communion propers addressing Mary.

Last person to try to tell me that Mary hymns shouldn't be used at Communion was someone from the NaPalM boards (which explains such a falsehood - they'd rather sing about how we're gathered together as an assembly and how we're receiving together and singing together and all that other hogwash).

Peace,
BMP

That's for the clarification. canticanova advises against it, and I couldn't remember if it was there own personal opinion or if they got somewhere. thanks for clarifying.

I ususally like a marian antiphon or hymn after communion ( during the cleansing of the vessels.)

Anyway, I like your selections.

Hope you are having a pleasant Easter Season

I never use a Marian hymn during Communion. It's also recommended not to use some type of Eucharistic Adoration hymn. These are best reserved for meditation after Communion.
