MUSIC FOR HOLY MASS (Cross Edition)

Twenty-Second Sunday of Ordinary Time - August 29, 2011
Sacred Heart Church, West Warwick, Rhode Island

This particular Sunday I remember ever so perfectly - from about six years ago. Two of the hymns that I'm doing this Sunday, I did on August 28, 2005 at the Geistkirche. They were "Take up your cross" and "Lift high the cross" (I also had "Keep in mind" and "There's a wideness" that weekend). After the anticipated Mass, the visiting priest squeaked "I felt like I was in Lent!" The priest in question is a well-known guitar-strummin' priest from the national shrine just minutes from where I live, and his brand of music sounds so... sixties! Local readers probably know EXACTLY of whom I speak. :)

Fast forward to August 29, 2011 at Sacred Heart, where good music and good liturgy is actually appreciated!

HYMNS:
E: Lift up your heads, ye mighty gates - "Truro"
O: Take up your cross, the Savior said - "O Jesu, Mi Dulcissime"
M: When I survey the wondrous cross - "Rockingham"
R: Lift high the cross - "Crucifer"

MASS:
Psalm 63: My soul is thirsting for you - Weber
Alleluia: Mode VI (Verse: Tone 6F)
Eucharist: People's/Danish

Communion anthem: In the cross of Christ I glory - "Charlestown", arr. BMP

Peace,

EVEN ELMER FUDD IS REMORSEFUL

A Lenten Example

In the classic Bugs Bunny episode, What's Opera Doc, based on several operas by Richard Wagner, Elmer breaks the "Thou shalt not kill" commandment (he "killed the wabbit"), then regrets his actions.

"Magic Helmet!"

Peace,
BMP

PS: Gotta love the pregnant horse Bugs (in drag) rides in on about halfway through.
