OH WELL - I MISSED IT

The Ted Kennedy "funeral", that is. Well, la de da!

I was busy with other things. As a result, I don't have much to complain about, from my own observations. From reading other reliable bloggers' observations and a letter from the Catholic Action League (via Jeff), however, I really thought Cardinal O'Malley had more class than to let such a debacle happen. Praising the Senator for championing gay rights during the General Intercessions? Allowing family members to line up to go up there and proclaim these one at a time like a First Communion class? Allowing eulogy after eulogy after eulogy, including one from the pro-abortion President Barack Sadaam Hussein Obama Bin Laden (who was reportedly thanked by the Cardinal afterwards)? In a beautiful church such as the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help ("aka Mission Church")?

I really thought there'd be just a little more class. What the hell was I thinking?!
Peace,
BMP

So many offenses to Our Lord and Lady at that funeral. I didn't watch either. I was sickened by canonization of Kennedy by the press.

I did see ABC news Sunday night where they spoke of the secret letter Kennedy sent with BO to Pope Benedict. I loved the ending of the segment where the news reporter concluded with "Senator Kennedy died with a clean soul, in communion with his faith". Oh, and you know this how? Were you there? Did the priest tell you of Kennedy's death bed confession? Grrr.

The Presdent's name is : Barack Husseien Obama. Please have the decency to use his correct name, not the garbage you through in there about Saddam and Bin Laden. You may not like him, but he's still the President!

Ah, do I see an Obama fan in our combox?! Nice of you not to have a backbone, um, profile and try to correct the spelling of the name of BSHOBL. He may be the President, but we don't have to like him. That's the beauty of this country that we're in - freedom of speech. Did you not learn that in social studies? Or did you conveniently fall asleep when that topic came about? Either way, you call him what you want, and I'll call him what I want, and I'll even call you what I want, and that is someone with no backbone. Fair enough?

Now, I'm not one to stick up for King Barry...but I'll give him two points:

1. He was probably asked to deliver the eulogy. He has demonstrated his total ignorance of any sort of Catholicism, so, given its unfortunate pervasiveness, His Changeness probably had no clue that eulogies are inappropriate during funeral Masses.

2. Throughout the entirety of the Canonization service of St. Edward, Obama was the only one (outside of the proper prayers) who offered any sort of prayer for Teddy's soul. I really don't like The One, but, sad as it is, he was the decent one.

Dear Cardinal O’Malley,

I have been pondering Pope Benedict’s words in his new encyclical “Charity in Truth”:
“To defend the truth, to articulate it with humility and conviction, and to bear witness to it in life are therefore exacting and indispensable forms of charity.”

To speak the truth is an indispensable form of charity, especially when that truth is unpopular. Our society does not want to hear that the unborn child must not be killed.

Despite whatever good he did, Senator Kennedy spent the better part of his long political career actively working for legislation that would favor abortion. That is not a judgment; it is part of the public record. He even voted in favor of partial-birth abortion, a horrendous procedure in which the baby’s brains are sucked out.
He did immense damage to the pro-life movement. Is that of any consequence in the eyes of the bishops?
While we pray in charity for his soul, it is indeed a deep scandal for the Church to imply that his record on abortion is of no consequence. I realize you were in a difficult position, but I am deeply disappointed that the overall impression given by the funeral was that it doesn’t really matter if a Catholic politician ardently supports abortion.

Who is speaking up for the millions of innocents who have been slaughtered and continue to die every day?
While Ted Kennedy had a magnificent funeral, these innocent children are thrown into dumpsters. And no one weeps.
