Are there any dioceses left who still do the Chrism Mass on Holy Thursday morning? Ours did till just a few years back, then we switched to Monday nights as well.

I don't know. This way it gives greater prominence to the Chrism Mass itself (which really is distinct from the Mass of the Lord's Supper), and allows for more to participate. Here, the whole afternoon and evening is made into a retreat for the diocesan clergy: a guest speaker preaches and guides meditation, the religious priests of the area come to hear the confessions of their diocesan brethren, then the Chrism Mass at 5:30, followed by dinner with the Bishop (around 8pm). A celebration on Holy Thursday would be impossible for us; no-one would come. It's a 2 hour drive for some parishes to get here, plus the liturgy was over 2 hours, and then 2 hours home. Plus the traffic of being the capital city, and the negative parking downtown (and meters that only give 10 minutes per quarter).

Ours was last night at 7. I wouldn't be surprised if my boss hands me a copy of the program when I see him Thursday.

You're right though - it does make for more people to come and take part.

Hey, one other question... I've only been to one Chrism Mass (1991 - the first one at our Cathedral since Peloquin retired). Do you ever get certain groups that come to the Chrism Mass and stand in protest? At the one time I went, we had a group of a few ladies who stood up throughout the entire Mass (including the Eucharistic Prayer) in protest to support women priests (as well as a few demonstrators for the same cause outside the Cathedral).
