At St. Cecilia Church, 30 St. Cecilia St. (corner of Belvedere), right behind Berklee College of Music's Mass. Ave. building, Boston, MA. Beautiful church with a majestic four-manual organ by Smith and Gilbert.
On this episode, we have a traffic report, a fraternal correction, music by Johnny Proctor, music written by Picchi, Remondi, et al, a brand-spankin-new Top Ten List, and much more!
Clips like Feasts for the Week and Don't Do This at Church are back. Here we talk about my new job, play a bunch of music, mainly for Holy Week and the April First Friday Mass. Charlie Crowe spreads his "Joy" and Shamus O'Reilly (yup, he's back too!) inflates "Ye Sons and Daughters".
It's a known fact that I'm not a big fan of Shall We Gather at the River - well, at least not as a hymn. But, because it's in the public domain, I figured I'd put the tune Hanson Place to better use - as a jingle for König Ludwig Weissbier (introduced by our good snark buddy Jason) the official beer of Christus Vincit Media. Listen below.
After watching his 2010 Predictions on the CC blog, I couldn't resist going to his YouTube site to watch his 12 Days of Caveman Christmas. It is freakin' funny, or as The Crescat would rightly say, it's hifreakinlarious! (He does have some good serious stuff too!)
I got to hear my own Psalm setting on the shrine's website. Play the Mass for the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica, and you'll hear my setting of Psalm 46 which is now part of the Chabanel Psalm Project - well interpreted. Kudos to Elisabeth, Ryan, and pals at St. Clement's Eucharistic Shrine in Boston for their great work there.
Woohoo: A blog Promo– and it was easy to find too– Brian posted it to the sidebar of the blog– a very good idea for bloggers and podcasters.
If you’re a Catholic Blogger who would like to have an audio promo for your blog I’m willing to act as a matchmaker between Catholic bloggers and podcasters who would be willing do do a short audio promo for blogs. Or if you are a Catholic blogger with audio equipment, you could do one yourself and send it to me– CurtJester
It's great to see the use of promos on blogs. I've had one for Christus Vincit ANYWHERE! and Christus Vincit TV (video promo) for quite some time now. So I had figured, "Why not one for the BLOG?" So, yup - it's on our sidebar so you can enjoy, barf at, play it on your podcast, whatever you want to do with it.
In honor of our forthcoming 150th episode of we'll be holding a hymn parody contest!
The requirement: Write a parody about Krakowska Kielbasa, the official deli meat of Christus Vincit ANYWHERE! You can talk it up or down, whatever you like, as long as it's funny. The catch: you must set it to a standard hymn tune (yes, a REAL hymn tune), and the words must fit (no irregularities). Send your entries to bpage69 (at) yahoo (dot) com.
The deadline: November 1, 2008 (All Saints Day) at 11:59 PM. (one minute later is 11/2/08 - All Souls)
The prize: Two pounds of Krakowska Kielbasa from my local Polish deli (I'll even send a Schwan's ice pack to keep it cold in transit to the winner's address), plus proper credit, as well as mention of the winner's blog and/or podcast.
If you're hungry for a good Polish deli meat, start writing! Peace, BMP
Yes, our Mass often has this lovely little added element. This video is from "The Naked Liturgist", from New Zealand. You'll get a kick out of this. Enjoy!
Oh, and I added a link called LITURGY (also from New Zealand) to the Christus Vincit Definitive Linkroll. It contains all sorts of liturgical resources from that small island country on the other side of the world.
This one may be the topic of a future Catholic Lost 45's episode for Christus Vincit ANYWHERE!
The Communion hymn at St. John the Baptist Church in Pawtucket today was Spirit Seeking Light and Beauty (text: Janet Stuart, d. 1914; tune: DOHMNACH TRIONOIDE). I only know of two books who carry this text: Pius X Hymnal, and Hymns, Psalms, and Spiritual Canticles.
The only other church in all of Rhode Island that I've ever heard play this hymn is at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul in Providence, at my daughter Jessica's Confirmation.
The hymn is absolutely gorgeous! I wish more hymnals would grab this hymn. OCP, GIA, WLP, and LitPress please take note, and even the publishers of the St. Michael and Adoremus Hymnals!
This afternoon I took the liberty of joining the Amazon Associates Program. On the footer of most of my posts, starting with yesterday's, I've added a widget for "recommended items" at Amazon. Anytime you click on one of those and buy, I make money. It's the next thing to a bleg, only I'm not asking for direct handouts. My unemployment's about to run out soon and I can only take so many rejections in one sitting (I've been searching my arse off for work). Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks much. Peace, BMP
Would you like to see your neighborhood Polish deli or market promoted by Christus Vincit ANYWHERE!? All you have to do is e-mail me at bpage69 {shift+2} yahoo {period} com and let me know if they sell Krakowska Kielbasa and I will gladly send them a letter-size image just like the one you see above, but with the actual store name and its complete address. The store owner can then take the liberty of framing it up and hanging it in a prominent place in the store (next to the store license, or just above the Berkel slicer, or even above "der Kol"), or even making copies and passing them out to their neighbors or hang on a billboard, or whatever. Said store(s) will also get mentioned on the next CVA podcast.
This is a great way to promote a great podcast AND great food from a great deli!
Peace, BMP
PS: The first flyer just got hand delivered to POLONIA MARKET, 736 Broadway, Pawtucket, RI. All things Polish and then some! :)
