MUSIC FOR HOLY MASS

Tenth Sunday after Pentecost - July 20, 2008
Low Mass (Extraordinary Form) - St. Leo the Great Church

I heard the voice of Jesus say..."Kingsfold"
Veni, Creator Spiritus...Mode VIII
Adoro Te Devote...Mode V
O Christ, the great foundation..."Aurelia"

I would have much rather done The Church's One Foundation instead, but unfortunately the alternative title is what's given in the Gather Comp. II debacle that GIA passed for a hymnal.

Peace,
BMP

I still can't believe that your able to pull off a TLM with Gather Comp. II.

Also, my parish just started using Hylton's Gloria setting instead of Massive Cremation, and we started to use parts of Alstott's Heritage Mass unstead of the other parts of MC. I was wondering what your thoughts are on the use of these settings? I already know that they are an obvious improvement over MC.

Considering the opening and closing hymns (not part of Mass in the TLM) can be done in English, and even so...

OK - I can't believe it either. It's still very limiting. Unfortunately the GC2 wasn't my choice. I think the former music director picked it. The current music director is kinda stuck with it too.

Don't forget about "Christ is Made the Sure Foundation" (in that hymnal to ST. THOMAS). Not as much fun as AURELIA, but the text is preferable to "O Christ the Great...", imo.
