Do you use We Celebrate by WLP? My church uses it and it also has Take Up Your Cross to Breslau. A lot of it is mismatched tunes, "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" is set to some tune I've never seen, same with "Come, O Long Expected Jesus".
I grew up with the old We Celebrate books (I was too young for the '76 book, but worked with '79, '82, and '86). The earlier books were the best, before they started bastardizing all the texts. The hymn variety particularly in '76 and '79 was quite good (give or take some Miffleton and Wise).
I agree about some of the awkward tunes. Kraehenbuehl had a bunch in the early WC books. Of them, I kinda liked "Become for us the living Bread" (tune: Manna).
The newer edition WC's have added a good share of decent stuff, but have added some crap as well over the years. I miss the SATB harmonies in the pew books as well (the pew editions from '94 on are melody/text only).
Incidentally: I like the Breslau tune for Take Up Your Cross. (I like Erhalt Uns Herr, but not so much with TUYC)
