HOW MUCH LATIN DOES YOUR PARISH DO?

Father Martin Fox has a survey going, resulting in one really busy comments box (180 comments just after I put in my two cents): Who else is using Latin/chant in the Mass?

Note: only Novus Ordo Masses count in this survey.

At my parish, we sing the Sanctus, Memorial (Mortem tuam annuntiamus...), and Agnus from Jubilate Deo at all Masses throughout Lent, throughout Advent (except for the Memorial, which we do in English to my own adaptation of Conditor Alme Siderum), and the last Sunday of the month the rest of the year.

This year, we've been doing the Gloria VIII (also in Jubilate Deo) as well.

It's still a slow process, but we're getting there. Right now they're still getting used to the fact that we don't do happy-clappy greatest hits at Mass. That stopped once my predecessor left. I also pride myself in the fact that we DO NOT use Mass of Creation at my parish at any time.

Finally, the Hosanna Filio David on Palm Sunday and the Easter/Pentecost Sequences are sung in Latin at the choir Mass, in English at the non-choir Masses.

Red Sox cap tips to Jeffrey Tucker at NLM, and our good friend Joe at the RPInet boards.

Peace,
BMP

Can you believe that over the past couple of years, OCP - yes, OCP - has been printing the chants for the Hosanna Filio David in Latin and in English? In their Holy Week edition of Today's Missal, it's number 1 (on page 3).

The Sequences for Easter and Pentecost have been included lately as well, in Latin and in English.

Shocked as all hell when I first saw it, but I'm very happy. It's a step in the right direction. OCP's getting better with adding some of the more traditional tunes, and even Latin and chant. I commend them for it. Now it's just getting rid of those dang "ditties" - those refugees from the Glory and Praise peace movement - ya know, that stuff they were writing with a little help from Mary Jane? (LMAO)

On the other hand, GIA would have to lose their Haugen-Haas ditties as well.

BTW, when I said "with a little help from Mary Jane", rest assured that I did not mean our favorite harpist.
