ME CHURCH

Funny, yet "sad but true" in the case of some Catholics.

Hat tip to Domini Sumus, who got it from Ironic Catholic.

Enjoy!
Peace,

Brain, that is PRICELESS! Just yesterday afternoon my pastor and I had a brief chat where we compared bulletin notices for this weekend. Mine asks parishoners to not only mute or turn off their cell phones, but invites them to actually tell friends and family never to call them when they are at Mass as a WITNESS to their devotion and faith. Pretty painless, but effective maybe? The pastor's message actually calls out "manner of dress and clothing; casual Communion ettiquette and postures; arriving late and leaving early; ho-hum responses to collects and such!" Man (Womyn, for any Poncho Ladies out there) was I happily surprised by that. Now if some of that could be voiced from the ambo now and then....

I remember several years ago our then associate addressed the wearing of shorts to Mass. He targeted the late Sunday Mass. It was said that never in the history of fashion were so many long-legged women folk wishing more that hey hadn't worn their thongs...

I linked it...

it is (unfortunately) way too true.

Voiced from the ambo - no! The homily is to be only on the Scripture, Proper, or Ordinary of the Mass.

We chuckle, but I did see a (Protestant) church billboard ad that advertised with “where it’s all about you!” Yeah, THAT’s a religion I’ll take seriously....

I would take exception to most of the priests I know complaining about responses to collects lacking vigor and verve -- they seem to delight in changing the words that precede our responses, or changing the inflection in ways that make everyone quite unsure of what to do.
And our deacons regularly make up their own dismissals.
I feel entitled to be similarly creative with my response in such situations.
