When we lived in Chicago, my wife was constantly amazed at the number of Hummers we saw on the streets of DuPage County. "Why do you need a Hummer in Illinois? IT'S FLAT!!!!"
There was a satirical editorial in one of the local "fake" papers (i.e. lists the clubs, restaurants, and music events for the month) about the Hummer. The original model has been discontinued, and the author the article was praising the decision. He wrote that a Hummer was just a form of compensation for the owner's diminutive genitalia. :-)
As for sinful show of wealth, I'm half-tempted to add to my list the Eating Contests I saw televised on ESPN this past Sunday. How sad is that for a homeless person seeing someone trying to see how many bratwursts can be stuffed into one's gullet in 10 minutes. What a sheer flaunting of... I can't even think of a word, it's so disgusting. No wonder the rest of the world hates us.

Hummers? Up here the problem drivers (by car make) are Volvos and Audis. Then you got the guy that drives his Mustang or Vette like it's a Model T.

Personally, I think that's the most sinful show of wealth there is. "Here I am in my ridiculously over-priced armored car!"
I always think of the charitable organizations that could benefit from the amount of money it takes to buy a Hummer. What a waste.
