I'm happy to report that Father Finelli (the iPadre) and the 25 parishioners that accompanied him to Medugorje arrived back home safely last night! The experience was wonderful, according to Father and two of the guys that went.
On a liturgical note, Father did let me in on something:
The German Mass, he said, was beautiful, as was the Croatian Mass. The English Mass, on the other hand, musically at least, was horrible, as I'm told. What is it with the English Mass where it seems to get the short end of the stick worldwide???

And I take it, Brian, that your deduction of the worldwide state of the "English Mass" is surely "horrible" based upon one person's account which is based upon.....? Well, no particulars were offered to shed light upon the criteria of any of the vernacular Masses and (presumably) the attendant musics.
Let's put it this way. Two more people had told me the same thing this morning, one saying that the English Mass "resembled a circus". Sounds to me like the same old bad theology/bad music combos we complain about here in these USA states.

Fair enough, Brian. These Masses likely did have attributes that are "less-than" inspirational or aesthetic success stories; one should remember that rarely do pilgrims have at their disposal professional or gifted amateur musical leadership. So, who knows really? I'm just glad for the folks who visited Medugorije and their ability to receive the Living Christ in that extraordinary place. Impromtu assemblies often produce awkward, very human moments. But I'm not sure they need represent the "English Masses" world-wide nor typify the ubiquity of "same old bad theology/bad music..." even here in the relatively more devoted, practicing USA RC's.
Complain away. You've earned your stripes and are doing your part to reverse the tide.
